Preparing for them to come home:
Blanket
Bring a blanket when you come for pick up! You can rub the blanket on your puppy, their littermates, and mom if they are nearby. This can help the transition bringing your puppy home! You can easily move the blanket around the house to help train your dog to "go lay down" on a familiar and cozy spot
(My personal dog still use's his puppy blanket 3+ years later on a daily basis - Michaela)
Crate training
We have started crate training your pups as they have been weened, and you can easily continue this training. The AKC has a great blog about crate training that you can find here. Their puppy blanket can help them make the transition into your home and into their new crate easily.

- Single or double door crate: here
- Leave the door open when they aren't in there overnight so they can enter and go as they please
- Remember their crate should be their haven and where they feel safe, not a punishment!
- Give them a treat/praise them when you place them in the kennel
- Give them a treat/praise them when they go in the kennel on their own
- Use their puppy blanket
- Place a blanket over the top of the kennel and let it drape over 2-3 sides of the kennel to make it warmer and make them feel like it's their den
- Try to transfer them into the kennel when they are already relaxed (or a sleep on you)
- If they whine, bring them outside once and then immediately put them back in the kennel
- If they settle down and begin to whine again, repeat
- Their first few nights, they may whine for a majority of the night as they get used to being away from their siblings, this is normal and we encourage you to not take the puppy out of their kennel and cuddle it as it can make it harder to crate train them
- If you have another dog who is kennel trained, you might decide to have your other dog share a kennel or place their kennels next to each other.
- Cuddle toys are also great options!
